Strathclyde Parkrun- my nemesis.
4 clyderunners toed the line this morning- Pamela who was on a run of good form preparing for the Edinburgh half marathon, Allan who mentioned some sort of piriformis issue..?, Grant who was running very strongly after the ultra training, and myself.
Recently I had just ran training runs at parkrun, so with good conditions on the morning I reckoned it was time for an all-out effort and hopefully get a decent time and the elusive 70% age related scoring.
Away we went and Allan and Grant taking off like scalded cats. Good markers- if I could stay close then a decent time would be on. Got to the turn in just over 10 minutes which almost equals my best. On the return leg I caught a glimpse of Grant and slowly reeled him in and passed with about 1k to go. Now for the wind up for the finish- tailwind as well so was trying to get some speed up. Hearing footsteps coming behind – it was Grant who passed me like Mr Farrah- as a 4minute/mile pace spike on his Garmin trace would testify. That was a hard wee run, but most enjoyable.
Allan had his best run this year, nipping under 20 minutes. Grant had a PB by 4 minutes in 20:38, although he very rarely does races below 40 miles in length so fair play to him. Pamela also hit the mark and got a PB in 24:45. I finished in 20:41 which was my best since July 2012 and achieved a WAVA score of 70.19% so another goal achieved.
Another great parkrun event- thanks to all the organisers and volunteers.
